Director Jéremi Perin’s first feature film

The film takes place on Mars in the 23rd century. The plot tells the story of a murder investigation carried out by a duo formed by private detective Alain Ruby and her android Carlos Rivera. He had already directed episodes of the television series Lastman (2016). In 2018, producer Didier Creste contacted him and Lastman creator and screenwriter Laurent Serfaty to work on a film adaptation of their series.

Instead, they convinced him to produce an original idea, a neo-noir science fiction animated film, for which he managed to find financing, which eventually became Mars Express. LEM: Dear friends, please screw yourselves.. A Million Miles Away was written by Fred Avril and Philippe Monthaye with Alice Lewis. While it may not be a genre-bending film, it has a lot going for it.
The music and sound also complement the overall feel of the film
It starts with a beautiful animation style that is very smooth, colorful, and detailed at every turn. The 2D art style works well with the story and its futuristic atmosphere. The English-language dubbed version is well done, and each voice is well-suited to the characters. The dialogue is always purposeful, providing context or helping with character development.
Even the villain is very stereotypical
However, the characters are not strong enough to be memorable. There are a few funny moments, but enough to keep things light-hearted. The pacing and structure make it easy to watch. There are a few action and chase sequences that break up the show, but nothing over the top.
It’s still a good movie, but the ending was disappointing
It’s okay when the movie is a mystery thriller, but it falls flat when it changes course trying to be something with deeper meaning. Ultimately, the ending was a disappointment, which led to a low rating.
