Norway’s official entry for the category “Best International Feature Film”; 97
Story
Armand, a 6-year-old boy, is accused of trespassing against his best friend in elementary school.
In the category of the Academy Awards in 2025
Halfdan Ulman Tonder, grandson of Ingmar Bergman and Liv Ullman, the first feature film is a partly allegorical and partly naturalistic analysis of the 21st century child-rearing and education system, and their attitudes towards the " “unfortunate accident” between two 6-year-olds.
Ulman Tønder’s aim and stance are strong, as is his artistic expression, which is clearly inspired by his grandfather’s work and perhaps to some extent by Kubrick
Renāte Reinsve is the eccentric mother of the possible culprit of this accident, Armand, and when she is investigated by her son’s teacher, the school management and the parents of the other boy, the film slowly descends into the abyss of mutual relations – stupidity from which nothing good can ever come.
And although the narrative itself sometimes seems disjointed and the film is unevenly edited, Armands represents in many ways a return and respect for pure cinema, for which it should be praised
