Story
Helen begins a passionate affair with a man who has no idea what her secret identity is. Caught in the crosshairs when her lover falls victim to London’s dangerous underworld, Helen’s employer calls on Sam to protect her. Bingo, the owner of the guitar shop where Sam gets his guns, is played by The Damned’s Rat Scabies.
It was a great start
A Tale of New York Written by Jem Finer, Shane MacGowan Starring The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl. It’s one of those mainstream entertainments where you can’t fault the acting and the production values are nearly flawless. You think a complex spy thriller will soon swallow you up and seduce you.
But John Le Carré it isn’t
Instead, you quickly realise it’s neither serious nor funny. As is often the case these days, the paucity of story is the problem. It has quirky characters and, in fact, characters who have the charm and conversational intelligence you’d expect from psychopaths.
Unfortunately, it was disappointing, it could have been so good
They may be related to Eve from Killing Eve, but they’re poor cousins and don’t fall into the psychopathic DNA spectrum. It’s a comical caricature of a spy thriller whose story relies on a thin plot and frequent action scenes to fill in the gaps. “One Hundred Years of Solitude” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres of this month.
