Michael Schur was inspired to create “A Man On the Inside” after watching the Chilean documentary “The Mole Agent”
Tale
Charles, a retired man, gets a new lease on life when he answers a private investigator’s call and becomes a mole in a secret investigation of a nursing home. He says: The documentary “The Mole Agent” is powerful because it makes people feel something remarkably similar, regardless of age, ethnicity or gender, and I would describe that feeling very narrowly as “I have to call my mom”.
Remake of the film El Agent Topo (2020)
In our show, we tried to strike a similar tone: basically, does our show promote the feeling of wanting to call our moms?. To be honest, I admit that at first I wasn’t sure if the show would interest me in the slightest, but somehow it drew me in.
All the characters are extremely easy to love and so relatable to the person in your life
Before you know it, you find yourself so involved that you just have to know who did it! It’s also a gentle reminder that we’re all here trying to do the same thing, live and enjoy life, so we might as well try our best to get along and, most of all, be kind to each other.
A bittersweet but gentle reminder that Father Time doesn’t play favorites
My favorite quote from the show is “Every great thing in your life, looking back, seems like a miracle.” Very poetic because it resonates with all of us. I’ll also admit that it was a little strange to see Ted Danson in that role, especially when you’re used to him as the Cheers character “Sam”; but very soon “Charles” will tug at your heartstrings without leaving any sad memories of “Sam”.
It’s a nice change of pace that won’t leave you feeling guilty about watching another “cop” show
I hope you watch it and that you recognize and understand the daily challenges that some in our society, in our lives, face on a daily basis.
